Camera "For Hire"
What Is It?
The camera is a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. The single lens reflex camera takes 8.2 megapixel images and has an 18-55mm lens. We have extra batteries, a 1 gigabyte memory card, and a carrying bag. The camera can take a burst of 14 images at a time to capture action footage.
Why Would You Buy Such a Magnificient Thing?
The OCY has a particular need for large, high-resolution images. We place these images on a page and the professional prints require extremely high quality digital media. An 8MP camera suited the OCY's needs.
Additionally, the OCY needs to be have access to a high quality camera at all hours of the day. The cameras owned by the IT department and by students do not satisfy this need. A camera own specifically by the OCY allows instant access to photography equipment for both yearbook staff members and other students.
What Would I Do With It?
Don't be afraid of the magnificent camera! You can use its power to compose your student snapshot or to photograph your special event for inclusion on a spread.
This camera eliminates the sad, teary complaint that students have each spring: I don't have any pictures for my yearbook page! Students now have access to a high-resolution camera to photograph themselves, their friends, and their favorite places. Just go see Katie Kavett or Yifan Sun to check out the camera whenever the need (or urge!) arises. Read the next section for more details about how to check out the camera.
How Do I Borrow the Camera?
There are three conditions a student must satisfy before he or she may check out the OCY camera.
- The student must read the instruction manual and demonstrate to a yearbook staff member that he or she can turn on the camera, zoom, focus, take a picture, switch modes to re-view the picture, and turn the camera off.
- The student must sign a liability form agreeing to be financially responsible for loss or damage.
- The student must agree to provide the resulting pictures to the OCY for possible inclusion in the yearbook.
Upon fulfillment of these conditions, the student may check out the camera from Katie Kavett ('09) or Yifan Sun ('10). Katie or Yifan will note the time the camera is taken and the time it is returned. The OCY suggests that the camera be returned within 24 hours so that others may use it. A permission slip including all these conditions may be found here.
